About
ESG Natural Capital Ltd, (ESGNC), is a biomaterials company focused on compostable packaging and construction materials from regeneratively grown UK grass fibres.
Growing our crops protects and enhances the land we grow on, increasing soil carbon and enriching biodiversity.
We process the fibre locally to provide replacement solutions to plastic and other carbon-intensive materials for our customers.
Our Farming
We grow the perennial grass Miscanthus in the UK, a cold-tolerant relative of sugarcane.
Our team has been developing and growing this crop for over 30 years.
Miscanthus is fully regenerative. We plant it once and harvest cane each year for over 25 years. After planting, we do not plough the land or use fertilisers or chemicals.
Growing Miscanthus regenerates the land, sequestering carbon below ground, improving the soil and water, leaving it in a better state than we found.
Partnering with us, packaging and construction solutions.
If you want to change your company's packaging or construction solutions from carbon-intensive options to locally grown solutions, we can help make it happen.
We work with you to understand your requirements and develop a final product solution.
Based on local production, we create materials with full traceability back to the field in which they were grown. Every one of our products your customers use helps reduce CO2e emissions and supports regional farming by growing materials locally.
Partnering with us, farmers and land owners.
We grow and manage the largest individual area of Miscanthus in the UK for our own manufacturing and to supply to others.
To grow with us, we provide a complete service to plant Miscanthus crops for you, with profitable, long-term off-take contracts backed up with on-farm support from our agronomists.
If you want Miscanthus planted, we also supply planting material (rhizomes) or planted crops as a service. Alternatively, for landowners, we can partner with you to grow Miscanthus and manage the land under long-term agreements. Click here for contacting us about these opportunities.
Our environmental credentials.
Growing Miscanthus absorbs CO2e from the air and locks it up in the soil and the cane as carbon, forming the fibre we produce into packaging and construction materials.
A football pitch-sized field of Miscanthus can make a quarter of a million typical food trays yearly and remove 16 tonnes of CO2e yearly from the atmosphere.
Miscanthus does this on lower-grade land, which is not ideal for food production; it can be grown economically where other crops may not.
The absence of annual ploughing and chemicals means it enhances biodiversity, and its perennial growth stabilises the land, protecting the soil and improving water quality.
Our Team
Our leading team has worked on Miscanthus's development and commercial use for the last 30 years.
Covering all aspects from agricultural production to end-use production. The team comprises scientists, agronomists, farmers, and engineers who cover the whole supply chain from field to shelf, creating land-regenerating packaging.
